The 2022 KASF-MSRC Scholarship Awards Ceremony Successfully Held in Denver

Last Saturday on 17th, the Korean American Scholarship Foundation(KASF)’s Mountain States Regional Chapter(MSRC) Awards Banquet was held at Denver Seminary Campus Chapel in Denver. The event was held to celebrate this year’s scholarship recipients and donors. KASF has been presenting scholarships and awards to much deserving Korean American students and descendant students of American Korean War Veterans.

This non-profit organization was founded over 50 years ago in Washington D.C. as a small group and ever since has been expanding to cover all 50 states. Currently, there are 7 regional chapters and the state of Colorado is among 5 mountain states that are included in the Mountain States Regional Chapter(MSRC). KASF-MSRC was founded in 2019 and until last year, the organization awarded scholarships to approximately 45 students which in total amounts to $82,500.

At the banquet that was held in Denver on 17th, Philip Yun – the president of MSRC – proudly announed that KASF-MRSC could provide scholarships to 30 students for $54,000 this year. This amount of scholarship was unprecedented and many donors selflessly donated for the students in need to continue their passion. Especially, KASF nationwide also received a long-term commitment of corporate sponsorship from KIA America. KIA America made a commitment to partner with KASF in helping students in need by creating joing KASF-KIA scholarships for 135 college-level students this year.

“Together, we accomplished more than we could imagine this year and will continue to sponsor students in need. Education is the primary path to social mobility and KASF’s mission is to help the financial needs of Korean American students seeking higher education and assist students’ academic and personal achievement,” president Yun said.

As students approached the podium to receive their scholarship, participants celebrated and sent congratulatory messages to each and every student. At the ceremony, many students showed their gratitude to the KASF-MSRC board members and chairs, took photos together and interacted with each other.

“It is an honor to be chosen for the MSRC’s scholarship this year. I am truly grateful for the scholarship support and all of my family members came to this event to show our gratitude. This scholarship allows me to work less hours and focus on my studies and additional educational opportunities. Thank you for your support,” said one of the students who received scholarship at the banquet.

Sang Kim, the Chairman of the KASF National Board also sent his congratulatory speech by stating “Congratulations to all the recipients of this year’s KASF-MSRC scholarship. As Korean Americans, our focus is continually shifting from inward self to ourward community, from receiving to giving. It is our goal to make KASF a true model non-profit organization that the rest of the Korean American community can give to and trust.”
