Taking a Look at BTS Members’ Plans Before Their Military Service!

Their Busan Concert, Military Commitment, and a “Temporary Goodbye”

One of the biggest questions of the year that shook not only Korea but their fans around the world has been answered. After BTS successfully held a concert in Busan on October 15th, BTS’s label announced last week that BTS members have decided to enlist in South Korea’s military as required by law. As if it was their last stage as a group for next 5 years, the BTS concert in Busan was free of charge and drew about 50,000 fans.

This finally puts an end to months of national debate in Korea about whether the group qualified for an exemption to mandatory conscription. The seven members will reconvene “as a group again around 2025” after completing their service, the label, Big Hit Music stated on Twitter.

Some fans in Korea support their decision and cheer for them since a military commitment is mandatory in South Korea and every male in the country serves to fight for their country since the peninsula is still in a fragile state of confronting North Korea. South Korea requires all able-bodied men to enlist by the time they turn 30 and to serve for about 2 years. There are exceptions however, to athletes who win medals at international competitions such as Olympics and to some high-level classical musicians, but pop music artists generally do not qualify.

Mllions of fans, who call themselves the Army, expressed their disbelief and grief. Many predict that this decision is likely to have wider ramifications, depriving South Korea of the billions of dollars the band’s fans pump into its economy. Also, like expected, the stock price of Big Hit’s parent company – HYBE – fell 2.5 percent immediately.

The first member of BTS to serve military will be Jin who turns 30 in upcoming December. However, ahead of their military commitments, each member has a unique plan individually. Jin and Jungkook individually left for their concerts. Jin is about to perform his new song with Coldplay at the British band’s live concert in Argentina. Other member Jungkook left for Qatar for his own commitments at the FIFA World Cup 2022. The band’s label stated that after Jin enlists, the other members will follow depending on their work schedules.

The leader of BTS, RM, has been confirmed as an MC for tvN’s fourth season of The Mysterious Dictionary of Useless Human Knowledge. Suga and Jimin left fans swooning after his recent appearance in the Korea tourism campaign “Fell the Rhythm of KOREA” as a part of the new Korean tourism brand Imagine your Korea. Jhope has already been treating fans with his solo projects. After the big success of this solo album ‘Jack In The Box,’ he also released a song with Crush titled ‘Rush Hour.’ Taehyung, also called as V, is also working on his solo album and shared an update when he released his Vlog. He said that he decided to branch out and try new genres he has always wanted to try.
