Romantic Downtown Denver Weekend with Colorado Symphony’s Romeo and Juliet

Yumi Hwang-Williams, concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony and a world-renowned Korean violinist, will join internationally acclaimed percussionist Svet Stoyanov for a special performance of Romeo and Juliet from Friday, March 20 through Sunday, March 22 at Boettcher Concert Hall in downtown Denver (Denver Performing Arts Complex, 1000 14th St #15, Denver).

The March program of the Colorado Symphony will open with the overture to Giuseppe Verdi’s opera La forza del destino, marked by powerful brass passages that signal the inevitability of fate. The concert will also feature a newly commissioned work by contemporary composer Christopher Theofanidis for violin and percussion, performed by Hwang-Williams and Stoyanov. The unique pairing of violin and percussion is expected to create a fresh and distinctive sound.

Following intermission, the program continues with Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, Op. 64, a monumental orchestral work inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedy. The poignant love story of Romeo and Juliet offers an especially memorable experience for couples.

Attending the Colorado Symphony: Tips and Etiquette

Colorado Symphony concerts are designed to be accessible to all audiences. There are no strict age restrictions or rigid rules; however, dressing in formal or semi-formal attire is part of the unique experience of attending a classical orchestra performance. While refreshments are not provided during intermission, beverages, cocktails, and snacks are available for purchase at the bar on the first floor of the concert hall.

Guests are encouraged to be seated at least 10 minutes before the performance begins. Once the performance starts, it is considered proper etiquette to remain seated whenever possible. Most symphony concerts run approximately two hours. Children may attend as long as they can remain attentive and considerate of others, though it is acceptable to quietly exit if unexpected situations arise.

The Colorado Symphony not only presents performances of the highest artistic caliber but also ensures that audiences of all backgrounds can enjoy the experience comfortably and without intimidation.

Parking and Transportation

Located in the heart of downtown Denver, Boettcher Concert Hall can present challenges for parking and access. It is recommended to plan ahead to avoid delays.
