Film festivals are always on the move, yet have been shut down for the last 2 years due to COVID-19, the Denver Film Festival is finally coming back to movie fans. This past year the Denver Film Festival hosted the festival on their new virtual platform, which allowed them to bring Official Selections, exclusive filmmaker conversations, bonus content, special guests and more, to homes across all of Colorado.
At last, the 45th Denver Film Festival is ready to launch starting on November 2nd until 13th. Surviving from leadership turnover, two years of pandemic upheaval and staff defections, the Denver Film is ready again to present more than 230 films this year.
“Having the opportunity to watch a film you would not normally watch, and watching it with other people with similar interest with you is what makes our film festival special,” stated Denver Film CEO Kevin Smith, who is hoping for an approximately 25,000 attendance from November 2nd to 13th. He is anticipating that fans will get the opportunity to jump into somebody else’s world for roughly 90 minutes and then freely talk about it with other people sitting next to them.
The festivals schedule kicks off with the red-carpet screening of director James Gray’s “Armageddon Time” at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House on November 2nd. In addition to the family drama “Armageddon Time’ starring Anne Hathaway, Jeremy Strong and Anthony Hopkins, other presentations at the Ellie include “Women Talking” by director Sarah Polley, starring Claire Foy, Rooney Mara and Frances Mcdormand, and “Empire of Light” by director Sam Mendes, starring Olivia Colman, Colin Firth and Michael Ward.
In 2020, the director Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari” won the Audience Award at Denver Film Festival. Steven Yeun, one of the lead actors in “Minari,” also won an award for excellence in acting at the Denver Film Festival. This year, there are also numerous international films that will be presented to movie fans at the Denver Film Festival. For example, they have “Broker” from South Korea, “The Quiet Girl” from Ireland, “Plan 75” from Japan and “Corsage” from Austria.
Last but not least, another South Korean movie “Hunt” will be presented at the Sie Film Center on November 11th. “Hunt” is the South Korean directional debut of “Squid Game” actor Lee Jung-jae, who also stars in the double-crossing espionage thriller. Set around the 1980s National Security Planning, “Hunt” follows two high-ranking agents in the Korean Central Intelligence Agency who are sniffing out a North Korean mole. Many fans that are enthusiastic about K-contents especially movies are already excited. The movie starts at 6:45 p.m.
