This Monday on 22nd, there was a mass COVID-19 vaccination site that opened at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City. Colorado finally launched another mass COVID-19 vaccine clinic which will be able to vaccinate up to 2,000 people per day just to begin with.
This clinic is operating in partnership with Adams County and Centura Health, and the state is hoping that once enough vaccine supply becomes available, it will be able to serve up to 6,000 people per day. On its first day of operation, this clinic served 500 people on Monday before expanding to 2,000 people on Tuesday.
The clinic at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will be operational 9 am to 5 pm Sundays through Wednesdays by appointment only. People who are eligible to be vaccinating in any of the phases up to and including 1B.4 can register for a vaccine. Those eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine under the state’s phasing guidelines can go to www.centura.org/vaccine to register and schedule an appointment. The site in Commerce City is currently distributing Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, according to the sign-up site.
“We are able to do 6,000 vaccines a day once we get enough supplies, and we expect that to be as soon as about 2 weeks from now where this will be going to full capacity,” Gov. Jared Polis said while visiting the site on Monday. “Many people are hoping that the mass vaccination sites can provide more access for minorities across the state to get the vaccine and that is our goal,” he said.
Mass vaccination sites launched last week at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs and at the Grand Junction Convention Center. There is also a site planned to open at The Ranch in Larimer County.
Polis stated that sites for mass vaccination throughout Colorado were chosen because they are easily accessible and centrally located. He said they would likely operate through June as the state continues to receive more vaccine supply.
