     “Happy Colorado day!”

August 1st is the Centennial State’s 146th Birthday on Monday. On August 1st every year, Coloradans celebrate Colorado Day and the anniversary of the state being admitted into the United States of America in 1876. It is a day to celebrate Colorado’s statehood and learn more about the legacy and history of Colorado. However, Colorado Day is not a public or a state holiday, so all businesses and schools are open as usual.

The state of Colorado is known for our vast beautiful landscapes, nature, and wildlife, so why not spend the day exploring the great outdoors? Of course, the best thing is that Colorado State Parks also offer free entrance on Colorado Day. The free day allows Colorado the opportunity to experience the Centennial State’s beautiful landscapes across 42 state parks. Be aware, however, that all the park fees – including boat and off-highway vehicle registrations, camping reservations, and hunting and fishing licenses – remain in effect. “Colorado Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the natural beauty of our state and spend time outside,” said Statewide Public Information Officer Bridget O’Rourke Kochel.

Moreover, you can tour “Colorado’s Home” on Monday, August 1st. The Governor’s Residence(400 E 8th Avenue, Denver, CO 80203) will be open for free tours beginning at 11:30 am. Visitors can also enjoy the gardens and order lunch from a food truck around the area. Coloradans are welcome to spend the day at the mansion to enjoy the festivities planned to honor our state’s most important holiday. The first 100 visitors to take the tour will be entered to win a foursome at Colorado National Golf Club, a championship course just 20 minutes north of Denver.

Governor’s Residence Preservation Fund Executive Director Coco Criste said “We invite you to join us for a free tour of Colorado’s Home on Colorado Day and while you are visiting, enjoy lunch from a food truck, a Capitol Hill scavenger hunt starting at the Residence, leading to the Molly Brown House Museum and Capitol, and finishing in the Residence gardens.” “We have not had an opportunity to host many guests at the Residence or grounds in the past few years due to COVID-19, but now we are excited to host a fun and free event that individuals and families can enjoy.” For more information, you can visit https://governor-residence.colorado.gov/.

Last but not least, The State Capitol is also free and open to the public from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. In addition to live presentations and historical costumes, August 1st will also be the opening day of a new Creative Capitol art show, show-casing our state’s towns, villages, cities, buildings, and landscapes. Tours inside the dome will be held from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm on August 1st. For more information, you can visit https://leg.colorado.gov/Visit-Learn.
