BTS wrote another K-pop history at one of the most prestigious music awards in the United States.
The group won ‘Favorite Pop Duo or Group’ for the 4th time at the 2022 American Music Awards, which makes them the most awarded group in the history of the category. This year’s nomination as the winner of the ‘Favorite Pop Duo or Group’ category was sensational because they won the award beating other world-renowned nominees such as Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Maneskin and One Republic.
They also won in the new ‘Favorite K-pop Artist’ category after being nominated along with BLACKPINK, Tomorrow X Together, Seventeen and TWICE. BTS first won at the AMAs in 2018 when they took home the prize for ‘Favorite Social Artist.’ At the awards ceremony last year, BTS became the first K-pop act to win ‘Artist of the Year,’ which is considered the grand prize of the AMAs.
This year’s AMA was hosted by Wanye Brady and was held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on November 20th. Taylor Swift won six awards at the 2022 AMAs, which brings her career total to an even 40.
BTS dis not fly to the U.S. to attend the AMAs ceremony this year due to each member’s individual schedules. The youngest member, Jung Kook, performed “Dreamers,” which is a song from the official soundtrack for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 during its opening ceremony on last Sunday. Instead, Tomorrow X Together, another popular boy band managed by BTS’s agency Big Hit Music, received a spotlight from global media when it walked on the red carpet for the AMAs.
